It appears that Raphael Guerreiro will be joining Bayern Munich on a free transfer after leaving Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season.

Raphael Guerreiro is set to swap Borussia Dortmund for Bayern Munich, with reports claiming that he has reached a verbal agreement on a three year contract. According to Fabrizio Romano, the left-back will undergo his medical check and sign his contract with the Bavarians next week.

Guerreiro’s decision to join Bayern Munich on a free transfer will certainly not go down well with Borussia Dortmund supporters. The 29 year old spent seven years with the Black and Yellows and rejected the club’s offer of a new contract as he wanted a new challenge. Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan were also said to be interested in signing him.

BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl said earlier this month that Guerreiro wanted a longer-term contract than the two-year extension they were willing to offer. And now it appears that the former Lorient defender will reunite with Thomas Tuchel at Bayern Munich.

Raphael Guerreiro made a total of 224 appearances for Borussia Dortmund, and finished the recently concluded season as the leading assist maker in the Bundesliga. Losing him on a free transfer to their title rivals is certainly a blow for BVB. But they have already replaced him with Ramy Bensebaini, who joined the club on a free transfer from Gladbach earlier this week.

Guerreiro will likely play a back-up role at Bayern Munich, with Alphonso Davies established as their first-choice left-back.
