Borussia Dortmund rise to the top with a win over Eintracht Frankfurt
One of the turning points in the Bundesliga title race was Mainz’s shock 3-1 win against Bayern Munich. This offered Borussia Dortmund the chance to pip the Bavarians and go top with a win against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Topspiel.
Eintracht went into the game on the back of a poor run of results. But given the quality in the Eagles’ squad, it was never going to be an easy battle for the Black and Yellows.
However, Borussia Dortmund flexed their title muscle to come out 4-0 victors. Jude Bellingham opened the scoring after an audacious turn inside the box, while Donyell Malen grabbed a brace to continue his sparkling run of form. Mats Hummels was also on target in the dominant win.
It was a game Borussia Dortmund needed to win, and the players certainly delivered in convincing fashion. Having squandered a 2-0 lead against 10-men Stuttgart a week earlier, BVB were under immense pressure to deliver this time out. But they didn’t let the occasion get to them and managed to secure the three points.
