Massive away win in Spain
Despite enjoying great home form throughout the 2022/23 season, Borussia Dortmund often struggled in away games. The issues were clear to see, especially in big games. But one of BVB’s best performances of the season came in an away game against Sevilla in the UEFA Champions League group stage.
Borussia Dortmund put in a resounding performance to claim a 4-1 win and put themselves in an ideal position to qualify for the round of 16.
It was Jude Bellingham who proved to be the star of the show for BVB at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán. The young Englishman grabbed a goal and an assist in the game, while commanding the midfield. It was one of those unforgettable European evenings and certainly deserves a mention among BVB’s best performances of the season.
5-1 win against Freiburg
The 5-1 win against Freiburg was the fourth consecutive league win for Borussia Dortmund at the start of 2023. Before this game, BVB had fought hard to beat the likes of Augsburg, Mainz and Bayer Leverkusen. But their performance against Freiburg was as convincing as it gets.
Borussia Dortmund had 26 shots and 76% of the ball. And they also had five different goalscorers, with Sebastien Haller netting his first goal in BVB colours to cap off what was a near perfect day for Edin Terzic’s side. This was one of the games that showed that Borussia Dortmund could turn things around and compete for the Bundesliga title after an underwhelming hinrunde.
