Gio Reyna put in a strong performance as the United States qualified for the Concacaf Nations League final with a 3-0 win over Mexico.
A fractious battle ensued as the United States went up against Mexico in the semifinals of the Concacaf Nations League on Thursday evening. Both teams ended the game with nine players, and the USMNT cruised to a 3-0 win with Christian Pulisic scoring a brace.
The United States delivered another dominant performance against Mexico, with Gio Reyna impressing in the number ten role. Going up against reported Borussia Dortmund target Edson Álvarez, the 20 year old set the tone for his side and delivered a lively performance.
A sloppy error from Álvarez helped the USMNT take the lead, with Pulisic on hand to take full advantage. The former BVB winger then doubled his and his team’s tally soon after the restart after getting on the end of Tim Weah’s cross. Ricardo Pepi added a third in the 78th minute to seal a comprehensive win for the United States.
Reyna was subbed off in the 75th minute, as the game started to get heated. The attacking midfielder looked confident with the ball at his feet and was also involved in the build-up to the opening goal. He was left with a bloodied nose in the second half, but did not let that affect him as he put in a battling shift for his side.
The USMNT will now go up against Canada in the final of the Concacaf Nations League on Sunday, looking to retain their title.
