Report: Borussia Dortmund to sell Emre Can this summer if new contract cannot be agreed

Borussia Dortmund will reportedly look to sell Emre Can this summer if the two parties are unable to agree to a contract extension.
The current contract of Emre Can is set to expire at the end of next season. And the defensive midfielder is seemingly facing an uncertain future at Borussia Dortmund. According to Sport1, the BVB bosses have told Can and his agent that they do not want to lose him on a free transfer next summer under any circumstances.
So they will look to either extend his contract or sell him this summer. This comes on the back of a report from Ruhr Nachrichten which claimed that Borussia Dortmund are willing to listen to offers for Can this summer.
The 29 year old said earlier this week that talks over a contract extension with Borussia Dortmund have not taken place yet, but added that he feels comfortable at the club.
Emre Can is coming off his best six months in Borussia Dortmund colours, having established himself as an important part of the team in defensive midfield since the turn of the year. But with the Black and Yellows looking to sign Edson Álvarez from Ajax this summer, the Germany international could yet end up being surplus to requirements.
It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Emre Can, who joined Borussia Dortmund from Juventus on an initial loan deal in January 2020. The versatile midfielder has made a total of 121 appearances for BVB, including 38 in the recently concluded season.
