Borussia Dortmund to face TSV Schott Mainz in the first round of the DFB-Pokal

The first round of the 2023/24 DFB-Pokal will see Borussia Dortmund go up against Regionalliga Südwest side TSV Schott Mainz.
The draw for the first round of the 2023/24 DFB-Pokal has been made, and Borussia Dortmund will get their season underway with a trip to fourth division side TSV Schott Mainz. Edin Terzic’s side will be hoping for a comfortable win to kickstart their season.
TSV Schott Mainz won promotion to the Regionalliga Südwest (fourth division) after winning the Oberliga Rheinland-Pfalz/Saar (fifth division) title last season. We should be in for a fascinating contest at the Otto-Schott-Sportzentrum, and Schott Mainz will be hoping to pull off an upset against Borussia Dortmund.
The Black and Yellows will be desperate to make a deep run in the DFB-Pokal this season, having last won the tournament in 2021. BVB were knocked out of the tournament by RB Leipzig in the quarterfinals last season. Marco Rose’s side went on to win the DFB-Pokal for the second season running, beating Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 in the final.
The first round of the DFB-Pokal is set to feature a number of exciting David vs. Goliath contests. Defending champions RB Leipzig will take on newly promoted 2. Bundesliga side SV Wehen Wiesbaden. While Bayern Munich will travel to SC Preußen Münster, and Union Berlin will go up against FC Astoria Walldorf.
The first round of the DFB-Pokal is scheduled to take place from August 11-14. The 2023/24 Bundesliga season will start on the following weekend, with the full fixture list set to be released later this month.
