Borussia Dortmund are closing in on the signing of Felix Nmecha from Wolfsburg despite concerns and protests from the club’s supporters.

Borussia Dortmund have seemingly found their direct replacement for Jude Bellingham in Felix Nmecha. According to WAZ, the Black and Yellows are confident of securing his signature despite interest from English Premier League clubs Newcastle United and Manchester United.

The report from WAZ adds that while negotiations over the final transfer fee are still taking place, Borussia Dortmund will have to pay a fee of around 25 million euros to sign Nmecha and he will receive an annual salary of six million euros.

The probable transfer of Nmecha does not come without controversy though, as he has shared a number of homophobic and transphobic posts on social media. Several BVB fans have expressed their concerns and displeasure over the club’s interest in the Germany international in recent weeks.

Borussia Dortmund supporters also displayed a banner near the club’s offices on Monday to protest against the signing of Nmecha, saying, “Zero tolerance for intolerance! Values are not negotiable.”

And Der Spiegel reported recently that a sponsor has also expressed concerns over the club’s interest in signing Felix Nmecha. But all that does not seem to be putting off Borussia Dortmund.

According to Ruhr Nachrichten, club president Dr. Reinhold Lunow and CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke held a meeting with Nmecha over the weekend. And the midfielder was able to convince them that he supports the club’s core values. The 22 year old said in a statement on Instagram recently, saying, “I make it clear that I genuinely love all people and don’t discriminate against anyone.”
