Report: Borussia Dortmund having ‘initial doubts’ over the cost of signing Edson Álvarez

Borussia Dortmund are said to be having initial doubts over the cost of signing Edson Álvarez from Ajax, especially with Emre Can in line for a contract extension.
Emre Can’s impending contract extension could impact Borussia Dortmund’s hopes of signing Edson Álvarez, with BILD claiming that those in charge are having initial doubts due to the total cost of the potential deal.
The tabloid claims that the total package of the deal to sign Álvarez will cost the Black and Yellows around 60-70 million euros. And with BVB in talks to extend Emre Can’s contract, it remains to be seen if they would be willing to spend so much money on another defensive midfielder.
Extending Emre Can’s contract would obviously be the cheaper option for Borussia Dortmund, and the report from BILD further adds that an agreement on a new deal could even be reached by the start of the season.
Edson Álvarez has been heavily linked with Borussia Dortmund in recent weeks, and it has even been reported that they have reached an agreement on personal terms with the Mexico international.
Ajax reportedly want a fee in the region of 40 million euros plus bonuses for the 25 year old’s sale. Álvarez, who has also been linked with West Ham United and Chelsea, is currently on international duty with Mexico at the Concacaf Gold Cup.
Borussia Dortmund are also working to complete the signing of Felix Nmecha from Wolfsburg, despite protests and concerns from supporters. The BVB bosses view the 22 year old as the direct replacement for Jude Bellingham.
