Mateu Morey was left out of the Borussia Dortmund squad for their pre-season tour to the United States as he is currently dealing with muscular problems.

Mateu Morey has been forced to deal with a number of injury setbacks over the last two seasons. And it seems that he could be set for another spell on the sidelines. The right-back missed Borussia Dortmund’s pre-season match against RW Erfurt on Saturday due to muscular problems. And he was not named in the BVB squad for their US Tour either, with the club announcing that he will instead work on his recovery in Dortmund.

Morey’s last competitive appearance for Borussia Dortmund came all the way back in May 2021, when he suffered a serious knee injury. The Spaniard was then forced to have another surgery on the lateral meniscus of his left knee last year, and was forced to miss the entire 2022/23 season as a result.

There were encouraging signs earlier this month as Morey played in Borussia Dortmund’s pre-season friendlies against Westfalia Rhynern and Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. But now he has to deal with another setback in his bid to return to full fitness.

It remains to be seen how long the latest injury will keep Mateu Morey sidelined for, or what the club’s long-term plan is for him. BILD have claimed that the Black and Yellows would be willing to sell the 23 year old this summer if they were to receive a suitable offer. The former Barcelona youngster still has 12 months left on his contract with BVB.
