Marcel Sabitzer agreed to a pay cut to join Borussia Dortmund from Bayern Munich
New Borussia Dortmund signing Marcel Sabitzer agreed to waive 2.5 million euros of his salary to join the club on a four year contract.
Borussia Dortmund completed the signing of Marcel Sabitzer on Monday, with the midfielder joining the club for a fee in the region of 20 million euros. According to BILD, the Austrian international agreed to waive 2.5 million euros of his salary to join the club. Sabitzer will earn an annual salary of around 7.5 million euros at BVB, and has signed a four year contract with the club.
The 29 year old said that he is looking forward to playing for Borussia Dortmund, and wants to play his part in helping the club achieve something special. He will now head to the United States to link up with his new teammates and prepare for the start of the new season. BVB’s first competitive game of the new season is less than three weeks away.
Sporting director Sebastian Kehl managed to convince Sabitzer to join Borussia Dortmund despite interest from a number of clubs in England and Italy. He will bolster the BVB midfielder that desperately needed reinforcements following the departures of Jude Bellingham, Mahmoud Dahoud and Raphael Guerreiro.
After struggling to make the desired impact at Bayern Munich last season, Marcel Sabitzer will now be determined to make a fresh start at Borussia Dortmund. And the Black and Yellows will hope that he can rediscover the form that saw him establish himself as one of the league’s top midfielders while at RB Leipzig.
