Borussia Dortmund are reportedly looking to add more depth to the squad in the centre-back position this summer.

Sebastian Kehl said earlier this week that Borussia Dortmund are keeping a close eye on the transfer market, and refused to rule out further signings this summer. According to BILD, the Black and Yellows are currently on the lookout for a new centre-back.

Borussia Dortmund have three senior centre-backs in their ranks at the moment, in Niklas Süle, Mats Hummels, and Nico Schlotterbeck.

Soumaïla Coulibaly was the fourth choice centre-back at Borussia Dortmund last season. But the 19 year old is free to leave the club this summer, and came close to joining English Premier League side Burnley before the proposed transfer collapsed at the 11th hour.

Antonios Papadopoulos and Hendry Blank are also in the Borussia Dortmund squad for their pre-season tour to the United States. But it is unlikely that they will be a part of the first-team squad in the coming season.

So the BVB bosses want to be prepared in case any of the trio are forced to spend time on the sidelines due to injuries. Ramy Bensebaini and Emre Can are also capable of playing at centre-back.

Further new signings will depend on whether Borussia Dortmund can sell players who are free to leave the club. So it will be interesting to see if a new centre-back does indeed arrive before the transfer window closes. It has also been reported in recent months that BVB want to bring in a new right-back this summer.
