According to Sky Sport, Borussia Dortmund are set to face competition from Real Madrid for the signature of Stefan Lekovic.

Borussia Dortmund have been noted as one of the clubs interested in Serbian talent Stefan Lekovic for some time now. The club seem to be working towards bolstering their defense ahead of the fast approaching 2023/24 season, and Lekovic is allegedly seen as one of the club’s primary targets.

As we’ve already explored, Lekovic was already on the radars of both RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich, with Leipzig in particular looking to add depth after the departure of Joško Gvardiol. It would seem that there is now interest from Spain to contend with as well, however.

Real Madrid seem to also have an interest in making a bid for Lekovic, which does a fair amount to add credibility to the hype surrounding the Serbian youngster. Of the club’s interested however, it’s likely that Dortmund and Leipzig would be the best suited in terms of providing the player with game-time.

At Dortmund, Lekovic would have competition from Mats Hummels, Niklas Süle and Niko Schlotterbeck in particular. Its clear that in the grand scheme of things, Lekovic would be the last name in that aforementioned pecking order, but considering the fact that Hummels is very much aging, he would have a good chance to get game-time and give the former German international both some solid competition for his position behind Süle and Schlotterbeck, but also give him an opportunity to rest when required. Dortmund would also benefit from additional depth considering how injury prone the squad has been over the course of the last few seasons in particular.

While nothing is set in stone as of yet, the thought that Dortmund are looking to add depth in the center back position is a heartening one. It is a position that requires shoring up as they will be competing across three competitions, which will ultimately give Lekovic a chance to show his talent on the pitch.
