Borussia Dortmund midfielder Gio Reyna has not been able to train with the team yet, and is now a doubt for the start of the new season.

The 2023/24 season will get underway next weekend, with Borussia Dortmund set to face Regionalliga side TSV Schott Mainz in the first round of the DFB-Pokal. The Black and Yellows have a number of injury concerns ahead of that game, with several key players sidelined at the moment.

Gio Reyna has been forced to miss the entire pre-season after suffering a calf injury while on international duty with the United States in June. Now, Ruhr Nachrichten are reporting that he is still only able to training individually and could well be forced to miss the start of the season.

Borussia Dortmund have not given an exact update over Reyna’s injury status as of yet. Edin Terzic said last month that he hopes the 20 year old will be fit by the start of the season. But that now appears to be in serious doubt.

Nico Schlotterbeck and Gregor Kobel are also dealing with injuries at the moment. And Ruhr Nachrichten add that Borussia Dortmund’s aim is to have both players fit in time for the Bundesliga matchday one clash against FC Köln at the Westfalenstadion on August 19.
