Eintracht Frankfurt sign Borussia Dortmund youngster Nnamdi Collins
Borussia Dortmund academy player Nnamdi Collins has joined Eintracht Frankfurt on a permanent deal.
Borussia Dortmund have parted ways with yet another young player this summer, with Germany U-19s international Nnamdi Collins joining Eintracht Frankfurt on a permanent basis until 2028. The young centre-back was born in a Düsseldorf where he started in the youth ranks of local side Fortuna Düsseldorf.
In 2016, Collins made the jump to Dortmund’s academy, where he played across the club’s youth system, making it to the BVB U-19s. The player was earmarked to be quite the talent, with Die Schwarzgelben making a strong effort to extend his contract at the club back in 2020.
Despite his talent and being tipped for stardom, Collins has been unable to break into Dortmund’s first team. The player was planned to be a part of BVB’s second team this season, but considering his age (19), the move to Frankfurt could prove to be a better move to further his chances of making it in Germany’s top flight.
In Frankfurt, he will likely get the opportunity to play a more substantial role. He will also follow in the footsteps of former BVB academy product Ansgar Knauff, who impressed while on loan with Die Adler. Knauff’s performances prompted Frankfurt to make his move permanent this summer.
While it’s a shame that Nnamdi Collins was unable to make it into Borussia Dortmund’s senior squad, it is very much clear that the club were not planning with him in the long run.
Reports have indicated that BVB are looking to sign another centre-back, with Stefan Leković mentioned as an option, which means they were clearly not looking to promote from within at this time. This move to Frankfurt may prove to be a new start for his career and we may end up seeing his talent flourish in the Bundesliga after all.
