The expectation at Borussia Dortmund is that Gregor Kobel will extend his contract with the club, with a decision expected this year.
Borussia Dortmund are said to be in talks to extend Gregor Kobel’s contract, which is currently set to expire at the end of the 2025/26 season. The goalkeeper, who has been one of BVB’s top performers since his move from VfB Stuttgart in 2021, wants a significant wage rise to reflect his standing and would like to become one of the club’s top earners.
According to WAZ, the BVB bosses are relaxed about Kobel’s contract situation. And they can imagine offering him a salary in the double-digit million range, even if they do not want to make him the club’s sole top earner.
The newspaper adds that the assumption at the club is the Switzerland international will extend his contract with the Black and Yellows. And a decision is expected to be announced this year.
Gregor Kobel has always stated he feels comfortable at Borussia Dortmund, and that he wants to help the club win titles. The 25 year old was also appointed BVB vice-captain last month, showing how highly he is regarded by those in charge at the club.
A number of big clubs have shown interest in Kobel in recent months, including the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Bayern Munich. But Borussia Dortmund would like to keep the goalkeeper at the club, and the hope will be that an agreement over the extension can be reached in the coming months.
