Niclas Füllkrug is looking forward to the competition of places at Borussia Dortmund, and believes that the team will always have a good striker on the pitch.
Borussia Dortmund signed Niclas Füllkrug on the penultimate day of the summer transfer window, with the striker arriving from Werder Bremen for a fee in the region of 15 million euros. The Black and Yellows now have three strikers in their first-team ranks, and Füllkrug is set to compete with Sebastien Haller and Youssoufa Moukoko for a spot in the starting XI.
Füllkrug made his Borussia Dortmund debut on Friday as he came off the bench to replace Haller. While he wasn’t able to prevent BVB from dropping points against Heidenheim, He was welcomed with an outstanding ovation by the Westfalenstadion crowd.
The 30 year old said after the game that he is relishing the competition for places, and added that he is not worried about how much playing time he gets at Borussia Dortmund.
"“The role doesn’t matter – the main thing is to have a good team first, to have competition for places and to have different qualities in every position,” Füllkrug said in an interview with DAZN.“I think that is given in this team now. Then the coach will decide who plays. We will always have a good striker on the pitch – that’s the most important thing! Or even two, that is also a possibility.”"
Niclas Füllkrug scored 16 goals in the Bundesliga last season and also broke into the Germany squad ahead of the FIFA World Cup. His performances helped him earn a move to Borussia Dortmund, with those in charge deciding to sign a third striker because Sebastien Haller will be forced to miss some games in January as he will be away on international duty.
