RB Leipzig beat Union Berlin 3-0 in the Bundesliga on matchday three, while Stuttgart handed Freiburg a shock 5-0 defeat; and both Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen maintained their perfect starts to the season.

Matchday three of the 2023/24 Bundesliga season was full of goals and shock results. RB Leipzig showcased their title credentials by dispatching Union Berlin 3-0 away from home. Xavi Simons opened the scoring for Marco Rose’s side in the 51st minute, before Benjamin Šeško netted a brace to seal the crucial win.

Heidenheim celebrated their first ever point in the Bundesliga as they came from two goals down to stun Borussia Dortmund and earn a 2-2 draw.

Early goals from Julian Brandt and Emre Can had given the Black and Yellows a two goal lead going into the break. But Eren Dinkçi and Tim Kleindienst scored in the second half to secure a memorable draw for the newly promoted side.

Bayern Munich came from behind to survive a tough test away to Borussia Mönchengladbach. Second half goals from Leroy Sané and Mathys Tel helped the reigning champions make it three wins from three, after Ko Itakura had given Gladbach the lead.

Stuttgart continued their impressive start to the season by handing Freiburg a shock 5-0 defeat. Serhou Guirassy and Chris Führich both scored twice for Stuttgart, before Enzo Millot added the icing on the cake by scoring the fifth.

Another brace from Victor Boniface helped Bayer Leverkusen move to the top of the Bundesliga standings, as they beat Darmstadt 5-1. Exequiel Palacios, Jonas Hofmann and Adam Hložek also scored as Xabi Alonso’s side maintained their excellent start to the season.

Hoffenheim came from behind once again, this time to defeat Wolfsburg 3-1. Goals from John Anthony Brooks, Maximilian Beier and Robert Skov helped Hoffenheim turn the tide after Tiago Tomás had given Wolfsburg the lead.

A late equaliser from Niels Nkounkou helped Eintracht Frankfurt salvage a 1-1 draw against FC Köln in their first game since Randal Kolo Muani’s departure to PSG. Florian Kainz was on target for the Billy Goats.

Werder Bremen kicked off the post-Niclas Füllkrug era with a 4-0 win over Mainz 05. Marvin Ducksch, Jens Stage, Leonardo Bittencourt and Justin Njinmah were all on the score-sheet in the dominant win.

A brace from Takuma Asano salvaged a 2-2 draw for VfL Bochum against FC Augsburg. Enrico Maaßen’s side twice took the lead through Dion Beljo and Ermedin Demirovic, but Bochum bounced back to secure a share of the spoils.
