Youssoufa Moukoko is said to have held talks with RB Leipzig in the summer over a potential move away from Borussia Dortmund.
It has been a difficult 2023 so far for Youssoufa Moukoko, who has managed to score just two goals for Borussia Dortmund since the turn of the year. After a promising first half of last season, the highly rated striker lost his spot in the team and has largely been used off the bench by Edin Terzic since.
While Moukoko signed a contract extension with Borussia Dortmund in January, Ruhr Nachrichten are reporting that he had talks with RB Leipzig in the summer over a transfer to Marco Rose’s side. BILD further claim that the Germany international was open to a move to Leipzig, but a transfer failed to materialise in the end.
Borussia Dortmund ended up adding another striker to their ranks late in the transfer window, with Niclas Füllkrug joining the club from Werder Bremen. And Ruhr Nachrichten add that Moukoko was less than pleased over the 30 year old’s signing. But a loan move on deadline day was ruled out, with the 18 year old deciding to stay with BVB.
The competition for a place in the starting XI up front will certainly be high at Borussia Dortmund, with Sebastien Haller, Niclas Füllkrug and Youssoufa Moukoko all competing for one spot. And Moukoko currently finds himself in third place in the pecking order, with Terzic usually preferring to use a more physical and taller number nine.
It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Moukoko, who now faces the uphill battle of establishing himself as Borussia Dortmund’s first-choice striker.
