Edin Terzic believes that Mateu Morey is the unluckiest player Borussia Dortmund have had in years, but hopes that the right-back can finally overcome his injury troubles soon.
Mateu Morey has been forced to spend significant time on the sidelines since joining Borussia Dortmund from FC Barcelona in 2019, with a number of serious injuries preventing him from living up to his high potential.
The right-back is currently working his way back to full fitness from a knee injury, which occurred not long after he was included in the Borussia Dortmund first-team squad for a competitive game for the first time in two years.
Edin Terzic has now provided an update on the 23 year old’s status. The BVB head coach hopes that Morey can start training regularly with the first-team in the next few weeks.
"“Mateu is the unluckiest player we’ve had here in years who has often been knocked back after fighting so hard. We are giving him our support so that he can get back to the top level. He was on the pitch with us for the first time this week. We hope that he remains stable now and that we can have him on the training pitch with us more often in the next few weeks, especially during the international break.”"
Mateu Morey has made a total of 29 competitive appearances for Borussia Dortmund. He suffered a horrific knee injury during BVB’s DFB-Pokal tie against Holstein Kiel in May 2021, and has been forced to deal with a string of injury setbacks since then. The hope will be that he can finally stay injury-free for an extended period of time and make his return to the first-team squad soon.
