There's a lot of buzz around Joey Veerman's signing by Borussia Dortmund, and rightfully so. The player costed a handsome €21.5million from PSV and was Dutch Eredivisie's best assist-maker last season too.
Moreover, his acquisition comes less than a week from BVB's failed pursuit of Said El Mala, who had been closely linked with Niko Kovac's side but after seeing four of their bids rejected, the club was forced to cool off their interest.
Dortmund, as always, have shown quick -thinking in the transfer market and wasted no time in making a potentially shrewd piece of business with Veerman, a 27-year-old creative wizard who rose to prominence for his talismanic displays for the Farmers over the last four years.
He's in line to make his highly anticipated club debut this weekend against Bayern Munich when Dortmund host the Bundesliga champions in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup at the Signal Iduna Park.
With such a proven quantity now in their ranks, here are three BVB stars who could benefit the most from his arrival:
1) Jobe Bellingham
He's spoken of being ready to assume bigger responsbility with the Dortmund squad this season, and Veerman might just be the spring that Jobe Bellingham needed to unlock his full potential.
That's because the Dutchman's ability to dictate tempo from the deep would allow the Englishman more freedom to roam forward and bring his dynamism to their attack.
2) Serhou Guirassy
The Guinean ace thrives on quality service, and that's exactly what he will get from midfield with Veerman manning it. The Dutchman is second to none in picking out runners and delivering passes into final thirds, throwing up the prospect of more goalscoring opportunities for Guirassy.
Veerman's biggest weapon is his exemplary ball distribution. With 67 assists for PSV in 197 games, he's time and again demonstrated his uncanny ability to create from deep and it's going to help the BVB find chances without having to work the ball in or around the box through several passes.
3) Konstantinos Karetsas
While Karetsas is a prolific attacker on his own, he is set to get a valuable partner now and together, these players could elevate Dortmund's offensive game to another stratosphere altogether.
The Greek ace, also signed this month, has already shown his ability to break lines, but with Veerman operating behind him, Karetsas will have more liberty to express himself more freely offensively without having to worry about dropping deep to help in the build-up. A potentially menacing attacking partnership is on our hands here.
