Borussia Dortmund host Eintracht Frankfurt at the Signal Iduna Park in the Bundesliga on Saturday, aiming to recover from back-to-back setbacks.
After four wins in a row, the BVB drew to Werder Bremen (2-2) and Union Berlin (0-0) in a pair of shock results that upset some of the momentum the side had built earlier on.
More importantly, it allowed their arch-rivals Bayern Munich to catch up on points tally, with both teams now on 14 points each from six games.
However, the Bavarians currently occupy first place on the league table by virtue of goal-difference and the rivals are set to face-off in their first top-flight game of the season later this month.
Against Eintracht Frankfurt, Niko Kovac's side face another potential banana skin, but here are three statistics which indicate that Dortmund could win the clash:
1) Highest league wins vs Frankfurt
Borussia Dortmund have won more often against Eintracht Frankfurt than any other side in the Bundesliga with 52 wins, including a narrow 3-2 in their last home game on 9 May 2026.
The BVB have not only enjoyed playing against the Eagles, but also tactically outsmarted them consistently over the decades.
The fact that BVB have registered the most top-flight victories over Frankfurt should give them a massive psychological advantage here.
2) Most league goals vs Frankfurt
As Niko Kovac said the other day: to win games, one has to score goals. And Dortmund have scored the most against Frankfurt in their Bundesliga history with 208. Against no other team in the top-flight has the Prussians struck a double century of goals.
In just the last five years, there have been seven occasions where Dortmund struck three or more goals against Frankfurt, including both their league games last season. Their biggest margin of victory in the fixture has been a pair of 6-0 wins, first in 1988 and then in 1996.
3) Terrific home record vs Frankfurt
Borussia Dortmund have aced it when it comes to playing against Eintracht Frankfurt on home turf, winning 14 of their last 15 games at the Signal Iduna Park. The 2-1 loss in April 2021 was the only blip during this run.
In their last five home ties against the Eagles, the BVB have struck 17 times, averaging over three goals per game, and haven't failed to score against them in the league while playing at home since April 1991 (0-3).
