Borussia Dortmund's campaign suffered another setback on Saturday after drawing 0-0 against Union Berlin in the Bundesliga, extending their winless run post the international break to three matches in all competitions. It also allowed arch-rivals Bayern Munich to draw level with them on points following their commanding 6-1 victory over RB Leipzig.
Here are 3 winners and 2 losers from Borussia Dortmund's 0-0 draw with Union Berlin
Winner #1: Waldemar Anton
Defenders don't come more resilient and robust than Waldemar Anton, who is easily the best centre-back in the Bundesliga right now. He refined his credentials with another colossal display against Union Berlin, chasing down every ball and relentlessly contesting physical battles. He finished with a staggering 11 interceptions, three clearances and won 13 of his 20 attempted duels.
Loser #2: Serhou Guirassy
Serhou Guirassy is rarely a 'loser' for Dortmund but lately he hasn't looked sharp and the match against Berlin was another disappointment for him. The Guinean was severely debilitated with the Iron Ones tracking him closely and cutting off all supply lines. He was forced to attempt shots only from a distance, and in his only clear chance of the game, Mathis Albert got in the way and blocked it.
Winner #2: Julian Ryerson
Julian Ryerson is yet to register an assist in the Bundesliga, but he continues to be a reliable supplier of dangerous crosses. On Saturday, he laid 15, emerging as their chief attacking threat from the right flank whilst giving Union Berlin defense plenty to think about. It's no surprise one of Dortmund's best chances was manufactured by the Norwegian, who laid a lovely ball into the area for Maximilian Beier, who although wasted the opportunity by firing it wide.
Loser #2: Konstantinos Karetsas
No, he wasn't poor. But Karetsas didn't have much time to express himself either as injuries reared its ugly head on the Greek teen, who twisted his ankle while attempting to get away from Rani Khedira near the byline, just eight minutes into his substitution. Although a diagnosis is yet to come through, outlets like Ruhr Nachrichten are expecting at least a five-week layoff.
Winner #3: Fabio Silva
Mathis Albert had also made a case, but here's a toast to Fabio Silva too. He proactively ran at Union Berlin defense, becoming a valuable outlet for passes in the final third to inject some much-needed bite into Dortmund's offensive vanguard. He set up one chance for Guirassy late on and made four recoveries too, showing he wasn't merely waiting to receive a pass, but actively competing for the ball too.
