Borussia Dortmund's season has come to a pause for the next three weeks due to the international break following an exhilarating run of matches over the last 35 days.
However, their players can't catch a breather as 15 members of their squad have been called up to senior teams of their countries with another five set to lineup for youth teams.
These five big names though, won't be seen in action:
1) Maximilian Beier (Germany)
Let's start with the most shocking omission from Germany's squad, that is Maximilian Beier. He already had three assists to his name this season when Jurgen Klopp announced his two squads for their upcoming Nations League fixtures but it clearly wasn't enough to impress the new Die Mannschaft coach. Beier then responded with a match-winner against Stuttgart just days later.
2) Giannis Konstantelias (Greece)
One of the most exciting summer signings by Dortmund, Konstantelias was even living up to the hype with his promising display against Bayern Munich in the Supercup defeat which he then followed up with a goal in their opening Bundesliga game of the season to Hamburger. However, the Greek playmaker suffered a torn ACL in that second game that has sidelined him ever since with no sign of returning for another few months. So he misses out on a call-up with Greece national team too.
3) Marcel Sabitzer (Austria)
Another big name missing from the international lineup this month would be Marcel Sabitzer, who's neither injured nor retired. The 32-year-old is just taking a temporary break from national duty as part of his workload management, but has hinted at a possible return for their Euro 2028 qualifiers that starts in March 2027.
4) Justin Lerma (Ecuador)
One of the six players that Dortmund signed this summer and among the two South American imports, Justin Lerma is yet to play a match this season for BVB despite a promising preseason campaign with them earlier on. Also, he's currently nursing a muscle problem, so the question of Ecuador calling him up for the first time is anyways ruled out.
5) Emre Can (Germany)
He's been out for months now with an ACL injury as the Dortmund skipper's injury crisis shows no signs of subsiding. Emre Can, who has 48 caps with Germany, was forced to miss the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and will remain sidelined from their first four clashes of the 2026-27 UEFA Nations League games too.
