Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid are two of the biggest clubs in the world today, meeting at the 2024 UEFA Champions League Final at Wembley Stadium. They also had a match recently in the quarterfinal of the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.
Madrid got the best of BVB on both occasions, with Jude Bellingham at the center of both games. Bellingham played three seasons for the Black and Yellows from 2020 to 2023 before making a big money move to Spain for a transfer fee of €113 million, including add-ons.
The two sides also had a rematch during the 2024-25 Champions League season on Matchday 3 under the new tournament format. BVB were up 2-0 at halftime thanks to goals from Donyell Malen and Jamie Gittens, but Madrid tied the match in the first 17 minutes of the second half before scoring three in the final 10 minutes to earn the 5-2 win.
That’s just recent history between Dortmund and Madrid. They had plenty of battles in the 2010s, including an iconic four-goal performance from Robert Lewandowski in the 2013 Champions League semifinals.
With all that said and done, let’s look at five players who wore the iconic black and yellow kits of Dortmund and regal white kits of Madrid.

5. Flavio Conceicao

After helping Deportivo La Coruña win La Liga in 2000, Flavio Conceicao transferred to Real Madrid for €26 million. He joined a star-studded squad featuring Zinedine Zidane, Luis Figo, Roberto Carlos and Raul, among others. He failed to establish himself in Madrid, but he did play in the 2002 Champions League Final as Los Blancos beat Bayer Leverkusen.
Conceicao also won two La Liga titles and three minor cups at Madrid. He made a total of 67 appearances in all competitions before being loaned to Borussia Dortmund for the 2003-04 season. He made 14 Bundesliga appearances for BVB, registering one goal and one assist. He moved to Galatasaray the following season and eventually retired in 2006 at Panathinaikos.
