Giannis Konstantelias could have hardly asked for a better start to life in German football.
The Greek gun marked his Bundesliga debut with a goal against Hamburg on Saturday, rounding off an excellent run inside the box before arrowing it beyond Daniel Fernandes for 2-0.
Signed on a €26 million transfer from PAOK Thessaloniki, the 23-year-old etched his name among the few BVB stars who got on target on their Bundesliga debuts for the club.
From serial scorers to short-term stars, here are five other players from recent history to score for Borussia Dortmund on their first league appearance with the club:
5) Marco Reus
Dortmund's Captain Fantastic set numerous milestones during his glorious 12-year spell with the club, including a goal on his debut. In fact, it took him just 11 minutes to open his account for the BVB, breaking the deadlock in their 2-1 win over Werder Bremen.
The goal marked the start of a special chapter in his career that eventually ended with 170 in all competitions by the time he departed Signal Iduna Park in 2024.
4) Michy Batshuayi
The Belgian had a blink-and-you-miss-it spell with Dortmund, joining in February 2018 and playing until April that year before a torn ligament curtailed his spell and returned to Chelsea thereafter.
But with nine goals in 14 league games, he certainly made a mark. Batshuayi was off to a flyer with the side, netting twice and teeing up once in their 3-2 win over FC Koln on his debut.
3) Milos Jojic
Another player who had a brief spell with Dortmund and perhaps not remembered by a lot of fans either, but Milos Jojic introduced himself to them in a rather resounding fashion.
Just 17 seconds into his Bundesliga debut off the bench in 2014, Jojic tapped home with his first touch off a rebound from Kevin Großkreutz's initial effort.
It remains the fastest ever goal scored by a Bundesliga debutant, and the second fastest by a substitute after Uwe Wassmer.
2) Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
One of Dortmund's greatest goalscorers in modern history, it's hardly surprising to see him on this list. The Gabonese star struck 98 times in the Bundesliga from 144 caps with the side, including a sensational hat-trick on his debut.
Augsburg were their hosts for the opening matchday of the 2013-14 season, and Aubameyang single-handedly put them to the sword with a clinical display in a thumping 4-0 victory. It was a sign of things to come from him in the years ahead.
1) Erling Haaland
Speaking of scoring a hat-trick on their Bundesliga debut, how can anyone forget Erling Haaland? In fact, he's the last Dortmund player to achieve the feat. They saw his potential during their clash with Red Bull Salzburg in the 2019-20 Champions League group stages and priced him away in January.
The Norwegian announced his arrival to Bundesliga with a spectacular 20-minute hat-trick off the bench against Augsburg and never looked back. Over the next two and a half years, he struck 86 times from 89 games as Manchester City signed him in the summer of 2022 for €60 million.
