Under Niko Kovac's first full-season in charge, Borussia Dortmund molded into a mean defensive side that conceded the least number of goals in the Bundesliga and were hard to beat too.

In fact, the BVB lost only 10 games from 47 in all competitions which is incredible by all accounts. Here, we're going to look at each one of them, chronologically:

Bayern 2-1 Dortmund (Bundesliga, 18 October 2025)

Dortmund were flying high until the inevitable happened. The BVB were visiting the Allianz Arena for the latest intallment of Der Klassiker and despite a strong performance, fell to a 2-1 loss which was also the first of their Bundesliga season.

Manchester City 4-1 Dortmund (Champions League, 2 November 2025)

Following a blistering start to their European campaign which saw them score four goals in each of their opening three games, Dortmund's run came to a halt at the Etihad where a rampant City blew them away in a dominant win as former striker Erling Haaland was on target too.

Dortmund 0-1 Leverkusen (DFB Pokal, 2 December 2025)

On the domestic cup front, Dortmund made another early exit as Bayer Leverkusen sprung a surprise 1-0 victory at the Signal Iduna Park. It marked the BVB's third elimination in the round of 16 of the competition from their last five seasons.

Tottenham 2-0 Dortmund (Champions League, 20 January 2026)

With just three wins from their opening six games in the Champions League, Die Borussen were running out of opportunities to sneak into the top eight but saw it dealt another blow when bogey side Spurs beat them 2-0 for their fifth consecutive win in the fixture.

Dortmund 0-2 Inter Milan (Champions League, 28 January 2026)

Just a week later, a free-falling Inter Milan came to town in what seemed like a doable fixture for Dortmund. But once again, Kovac's slumped to a 2-0 loss on the back of another toothless display as knockout playoffs beckoned.

Atalanta 4-1 Dortmund (Champions League, 25 February 2026)

Boasting a 2-0 lead from the first leg, the BVB were confident of their chances of progressing into the round of 16 but Atalanta had other plans. The Bergamo outfit turned in a frighteningly good attacking display, with Lazar Samadzic netting the match-winning penalty in the eighth-added minute.

Dortmund 2-3 Bayern (Bundesliga, 28 February 2026)

A miserable month came to an end on a miserable note when Bayern came back to haunt Dortmund and end their 17-game unbeaten run in the league. The Bavarians made up for a sloppy first half with a dominant show after the break with Joshua Kimmich netting the winner in the 87th minute.

Dortmund 0-1 Leverkusen (Bundesliga, 11 April 2026)

They say lightening doesn't strike twice. But this case, it sure did. Leverkusen, who had beaten Dortmund at the Signal Iduna Park in their cup game earlier that season, repeated the trick in the Bundesliga too, picking up an identical 1-0 win. While Ibrahim Maza was the hero for Die Werkself in December, it was Robert Andrich who produced the goods this time.

Hoffenheim 2-1 Dortmund (Bundesliga, 18 April 2026)

Dortmund were aiming for strong finish to their Bundesliga season but Hoffenheim threw another hammer in their works. Serhou Guirassy's late equalizer seemed to have secured a point, until Andrej Kramaric won it for the home side in stoppage-time with a penalty.

Monchengladbach 1-0 Dortmund (Bundesliga, 3 May 2026)

There one last setback for Dortmund before closing out their season. As their form appeared to taper off towards the fag end, the Foals inflicted them with their fifth top-flight loss of the season, and a third from their last four matches alone as Haris Tabakovic broke their resistance in the 88th minute.
