A look into Emre Can's struggles at Borussia Dortmund

FC Augsburg 2-1 Borussia Dortmund
Can came off the bench and played as a centre-back as FC Augsburg defeated Dortmund 2-1. When Augsburg midfielder Elvis Rexhbecaj provided the early low cross into the penalty area, Can could have easily controlled the ball and kicked it out of play for a throw-in or a corner since Alexis Claude Maurice was far behind and Phillip Tietz was also not in position to take the ball off him. But he made a poor clearance attempt which fell straight into the path of Maurice and he successfully capitalised.
To be fair, Dortmund's overall game-plan was also poor since their midfield was easily bypassed and Augsburg kept on venturing in their penalty area, but Can could have done his part during that situation rather than panicking, which he has a tendency of doing while under pressure from the opposition.
Real Madrid 5-2 Borussia Dortmund
During this match, Can was subbed on in place of Julian Ryerson and was asked to play as a right wing-back, which is an unfamiliar position for him to play in despite his versatility, especially when you have to deal with Vinicius Junior on the left flank.
Real Madrid hit their fourth goal on the counter from Can's flank and critics were of the opinion that the BVB captain should have done better while tracking back Vinicius. Granted, he was playing in an unfamiliar position, but this action of him being caught out by opposition forwards has become an all-too-familiar sight for BVB supporters over the last two years.
