Borussia Dortmund beat Augsburg 1-0 at the WWK Arena on Saturday as Serhou Guirassy netted the only goal of the match in the 37th minute. Niko Kovac's side climbed to third position in the Bundesliga table with 20 points from nine games and now looks forward to a challenging match against Manchester City at the Etihad in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Coming off a 120-minute slog against Eintracht Frankfurt in the cup, which Der BVB clinched on penalties, the ramifications were visible here as Dortmund looked energy-sapped for much of the game. That attacking effervescence was missing, and chances were scarce.

However, the Yellow and Blacks were fortunate enough to go ahead before the break as Augsburg's defensive mix-up allowed Guirassy to break the deadlock after 37 minutes. Waldermar Anton's cross was headed down by Chrislain Matsima, which came off his own teammate Han-Noah Massengo.
Guirassy, standing unmarked on the edge of the box, chased the loose ball, took a touch, and then fired one in beyond Augsburg goalkeeper Finn Dahmen to make it 1-0 for Dortmund. Augsburg huffed and puffed in search of an equalizer, but couldn't find a breakthrough.
