Borussia Dortmund continued their winning run in the Bundesliga on Saturday with a narrow 1-0 victory over Augsburg at the WWK Arena. Serhou Guirassy struck the only goal of the game in the 37th minute as Dortmund climbed to third position in the table with 20 points from nine games.

It wasn't their best performance, with Dortmund once again struggling to break down a limping Fuggerstadter for much of the game. Even the match-winning goal was the result of some fortune as Guirassy was the beneficiary of a deflection.

Nonetheless, Niko Kovac's side got the job done and can now look forward to a daunting clash with Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday. Here are some talking points from Dortmund's win over Augsburg:

1) Guirassy back among the goals

Serhou Guirassy ended his goal-drought of five games last night as the beleaguered Guinean international was back among the goals. He struck the only goal of the match to earn Dortmund all three points and extended his tally for the league season to five goals in eight games.

Waldemar Anton's cross was headed down by Chrislain Matsima, who rebounded off his teammate Han-Noah Massengo and onto Guirassy, who chased it down and took a touch before slicing one beyond Augsburg custodian Finn Dahmen.

2) A cagey, uninspiring game for Dortmund

Just like we saw against Frankfurt in the cup, Dortmund endured another cagey opening stanza at the WWK Arena on Saturday. Dull passes, short on creativity, and no clear direction, Kovac's side were visibly below their best but were still fortunate to head into the break 1-0 up, courtesy of a defensive mix-up by Augsburg.

The second half was hardly better, with goalscoring opportunities once again few and far between. Kovac attempted to inject some life into the play by introducing a couple of substitutes, but to no avail. A second goal remained far-fetched. As for Augsburg, the hosts made a few attempts in the offensive half, but they weren't lethal enough to beat Dortmund.

3) Dortmund, the best defensive side in Europe?

With the 1-0 win, Die Borussen registered their sixth clean sheet of the season in the Bundesliga from nine games. It currently holds the joint-best defensive record in Europe, alongside Premier League giants Arsenal. For more context, German champions Bayern Munich have five, while European champions PSG also have six, but have played two league games more.

Moreover, six clean sheets from the first nine Bundesliga games is a new club record too for Dortmund, highlighting their solid defense this season. The back three of Anton, Schlotterbeck, and Bensebaini have forged a solid partnership, becoming the foundation upon which the team has thrived. Aaron Anselmino has also been an effective backup option, as he demonstrated last night, too.
