Borussia Dortmund star Serhou Guirassy was the lone representative of the club in the final Ballon d'Or 2025 rankings. Former BVB star Ousmane Dembele bagged the Golden Ball at the star-studded ceremony in Paris on Monday, while Guirassy finished on 21.

Signed on a moderate €18 million transfer from Bundesliga rivals VfB Stuttgart in 2024, the Guinean international enjoyed a prolific debut campaign in Dortmund: he scored a remarkable 38 goals from 50 games in all competitions, while chipping in with a further nine assists.

In the 2024-25 league season, Guirassy netted 21 goals from 30 games to help the side finish inside the top four places with a late surge and secure a spot in Champions League football. Speaking of which, the 29-year-old emerged as the competition's top scorer last season with 13 goals from 14 games.

Dortmund marched all the way to the quarter-finals, where Barcelona ended their run with a 5-3 aggregate victory, but Guirassy gave the Spanish giants a real worry in the second leg as his sensational hat-trick led Dortmund to a stunning 3-1 win at the Signal Iduna Park.

Later in the newly formatted FIFA Club World Cup, Guirassy led the charge once again as Dortmund advanced to the last 8, where another Spanish giant, Real Madrid, spelled the end of their campaign. Nonetheless, the marksman netted four goals in five games, including three in the knockout stages.

Time and again, Guirassy proved his big game pedigree by consistently showing up and making a difference for his side. His tally of 38 goals in all competitions is the most by a Borussia Dortmund player since Erling Haaland netted 41 times in the 2020-21 season, and moreover, he managed to pull it off in his first season.

Due to a lack of trophies, his chances of claiming the fabled Ballon d'Or were always tough, but he still made it into the final list, finishing in a modest 21st position, above former Dortmund stars Jude Bellingham (23rd) and Erling Haaland (26th).
