Borussia Dortmund star Felix Nmecha has labeled his bicycle kick goal against Paderborn as the best of his career.
The German international came off the bench on Saturday to score a late double, including a breathtaking overhead kick in the 89th minute that effectively sealed the contest for BVB.
After the match, Nmecha was asked if his second goal should be considered the Goal of the Month, he revealed it's something he'd tried as a kid.
"You have to decide that. But maybe it was a little bit of childhood. It was very nice. Those are the kinds of things you always tried as a kid. And then when it works, you're happy."
Fabio Silva's fifth-minute strike had given Dortmund the lead but the match wasn't quite sewn up yet with the side only 1-0 up entering the final 10 minutes and Paderborn threatening in phases.
In the 80th minute, Nmecha, who had replaced Joey Veerman shortly after the hour mark, doubled their advantage with a confident strike off another substitute Maximilian Beier's pass.
He wasn't done yet, however, and in the penultimate minute of normal time, latched onto a superb cross from Marcel Sabitzer, who'd also come off the bench, by lunging himself in the air and unleashing a cheeky overhead kick that took a bounce before bundling into the net beyond Paderborn goalkeeper Nahuel Noll for 3-0.
Borussia Dortmund made it three wins from three in the new Bundesliga season for the first time since 2015-16 season and remain the only side besides Freiburg to boast a 100% win record in the competition right now.
Nmecha ends drought
Felix Nmecha isn't a regular goalscorer. But he still took a long time to get back among the goals in the Bundesliga. In fact, his brace against Paderborn on Saturday were his first pair of league goals since his strike against Eintracht Frankfurt in January.
It's also the first time he's scored two goals in a match since October 2025, when the German international bagged a double in the 3-0 win over FC Copenhagen in the Champions League. But in the Bundesliga specifically, he'd never scored a brace for the BVB before.
Since joining from VfL Wolfsburg in 2023, Nmecha has scored 15 goals for Dortmund from 118 appearances in all competitions whilst bagging another eight assists. His scoring rate however, has doubled since joining the side, going up from 0.06 goals per game to almost 0.13 now.
