Borussia Dortmund star Gregor Kobel and his Switzerland team prevailed 4-1 over 10-man Bosnia & Herzegovina in their Group B encounter at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Friday.
Having only mustered a lowly 1-1 draw with Qatar on the opening day, La Nati turned up the heat against the Golden Lillies to score four goals in the final 23 minutes of their clash.
The victory boosts their chances or progressing into the knockout stages as Switzerland need just a draw in their final group fixture against tournament co-hosts Canada on Wednesday.
It was turning out to be another frustrating outing for Murat Yakin's side, who controled possession and created the better chances but struggled to find a way past Bosnia, who sat back in a low-block.
Dan Ndoye even lunched into a spectacular acrobatic shot from inside the box but Bosnian custodian Nikola Vasilj reacted quickly to parry it over the bar.
The ensuing corner saw the Swiss come close to scoring once again with Breel Embolo diverting it near the goal with a header but Vasilj was once again on hand to parry it away.
At the other end of the field, Amar Dedic tested Gregor Kobel, perhaps his first real defensive moment of the clash, from range but the BVB star dived the right way to repel it.
Yakin made a slew of inspired substitutions after the break that turned the screw as Johan Manzambi scored twice off the bench whereas fellow substitute Ruben Vargas bagged a goal and an assist.
Switzerland led 3-0 heading into stoppage-time and the match appeared done and dusted with Kobel on his way to his first clean sheet of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
But Ermin Mahmic pulled one back for Bosnia in the third added minute to deny him that. As a corner was played in, Kobel punched it away out of danger but it landed straight at Mahmic.
The 21-year-old then produced a sensational first-time volley from the edge of the penalty box that crashed into the back of the net with Kobel stranded in his position.
And just like that, the Dortmund custodian saw yet another clean sheet taken away from him in the closing stages; his teammate Miro Muheim had mistakenly put one past him at the 94th minute in their Qatar clash.
But there was one last piece of action to come for Switzerland when Djibril Sow was hacked down inside the box for a penalty.
Former Arsenal star Granit Xhaka stepped up to take it and dispatched a low-drive into the bottom corner for 4-1 as Switzerland emphatically sealed all three points.
They play their final group match against Canada where Kobel hopes to bag a clean sheet although the Maple Leaves look in an inspired form after thrashing Qatar 6-0 on the same day.
