Borussia Dortmund left it late against Werder Bremen in their 3-2 win on Tuesday to reach the third round of the 2026-27 DFB-Pokal season.

Serhou Guirassy and Carney Chukwuemeka scored in the first half for the BVB, but Niclas Fullkrug came off the bench to net twice after the hour mark and drew the visitors level.

However, substitute Marcel Sabitzer curled in a fabulous free-kick from a tight angle to win it for Dortmund in the 93rd minute.

Here are the player ratings for Borussia Dortmund:

Gregor Kobel - 6.5: Made four saves although he stood no chance with either of Fullkrug's goals.

Joane Gadou - 7.5: Exceptional in the air and timed his tackles to perfection; set up a nice chance for Guirassy in the first half but the striker headed it over.

Waldemar Anton - 7.5: Fought hard for the ball, winning 13 of 21 attempted duels and made five clearances too; Fullkrug raced past him like a training cone in the build up to second goal.

Nico Schlotterbeck - 8: Was always in the right place to intervene, even impeding a dangerous counter-attack from Bremen in the 51st minute with a last-minute block.

Julian Ryerson - 6.5: Left a lot of gap in behind on the right which Marco Grull exploited gleefully, whilst also conceding a penalty to Bremen which sparked their comeback; the Norwegian bagged the assist for Guirassy's opener, so extra points for that.

Joey Veerman - 7.5: The pass-master was at the heart of their movements, circulating the ball with unerring accuracy whilst also laying three crosses.

Felix Nmecha - 6.5: Attempted a half-chance in the first half that was saved before scuffing a shot narrowly wide in the 54th minute; won the free-kick that led to BVB's winner on the night.

Maximilian Beier - 6.5: Ran his socks off as always and bagged the pre-assist for Guirassy's opener; it was his ball for Nmecha which drew a foul out of Senne Lynen in stoppage-time as Dortmund were awarded a free-kick.

Jobe Bellingham - 7.5: Was involved in both their goals on the day, playing a defense-splitting through ball in the build-up to the first before heading Veerman's cross into Chukwuemeka's path for 2-0.

Carney Chukwuemeka - 7.5: Doubled BVB's lead with a simple finish but missed a tap-in after the break; perhaps he wasn't expecting Guirassy to cut it back across to him after initially playing the Guinea on the left.

Serhou Guirassy - 8: Exemplary work-ethic from the BVB targetman, who dropped deep to recover the ball and initiate attacks, such the goal he scored in the seventh minute.
