Borussia Dortmund could see another key player leave this summer as Karim Adeyemi has reportedly been approached by LaLiga champions, Barcelona.

The German international, whose contract runs out next year, is said to have reached a personal agreement with the club but the Catalans remain in negotiations with Dortmund.

They are hopeful of getting him on a cut price fee although a deal is not imminent and no contract has been signed yet either.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported the news on his official X handle, revealing that Barcelona have officially submitted a bit for Adeyemi:

Following back-to-back league titles, the Blaugrana are looking to shake up their attacking vanguard as prolific striker Robert Lewandowski has left to join Chicago Fire while Marcus Rashford has returned to Manchester United after his loan period was over.

Moreover, Ferran Torres enters the final year of his contract with Barcelona too. Although Adeyemi isn't a striker, his versatility means he could operate from various positions across the frontline and midfield, giving head coach Hansi Flick some real tactical flexibility.

If a move does transpire, he could be the latest piece of business done by the Spanish champions, who recently announced the signing of Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon on a massive €70 million deal.

But according to another report by The New York Times, Barcelona's €20 million bid for Adeyemi has been rejected by Dortmund as it fell well short of their €40 million valuation of the 24-year-old star.

Adeyemi's future came under question following a decline in form in the second half of last season as well as his rumored fall-out with manager Niko Kovac.

The player's antiques on the pitch seemed to have irked the club's board too, with Adeyemi also seen kicking a bottle on his way out of the match one time.

Despite averaging just over 46 minutes in the first half of the 2025-26 Bundesliga season, the German scored five goals and made two assists.

But after their first match since the winter break, his gametime reduced to just 36 minutes on average per game as Adeyemi contributed four goals.

He also missed four of their top-flight games between April and May, three of which were due to muscular problems.

After breaking out at Red Bull Salzburg, Borussia Dortmund priced Adeyemi away to Signal Iduna Park in 2022 where he's since made 146 appearances and scored 36 goals while assisting 25.
