Borussia Dortmund cannot seem to get a break from the Serhou Guirassy exit rumors. Even as sporting director Nils-Ole Book reinstated the club's intent on keeping him unless an 'extraordinary offer' arrives, speculations of departure have been sparked once again with the club apparently impressed by a new striker from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to Round Table, USMNT star Folarin Balogun has caught the BVB's attention with his promising displays for the tournament co-hosts. The forward has bagged two goals for the Stars and Stripes at the World Cup so far and could add more to his tally later tonight when Mauricio Pochettino's side take on Bosnia & Herzegovina in the Round of 32.
Transfer news expert Ekrem Konur also reported on X that Borussia Dortmund are considering a potential move for the 24-year-old, who is currently under contract with Ligue 1 giants AS Monaco while his estimated market value is about €40 million. But Konur further stated that a deal is feasible only if a club activates Guirassy's release clause of €38 million.
However, Dortmund's top target for now remains Fisnik Asllani. The 23-year-old Hoffenheim forward has been linked with a move to Signal Iduna Park this summer although reports of an agreement in place between the two parties were dismissed by Funke Sport.
Asllani himself has a release clause of €30 million on his current contract with Die Kraichgauer which Dortmund are reportedly reluctant to meet. League rivals RB Leipzig are said to be interested in the player too but Asllani is rumored to favor a move to Dortmund instead.
Should Guirassy be priced away this summer, Die Borussen could go all out for the Kosovan star and waste no time in reinforcing their striker department with a new marksman who struck 10 goals and made nine assists last season.
At 23, Asllani is still young and would have enormous room to develop into a bona fide star of the game at a club that has a glorious history of turning young attacking prospects into world-beaters. But if Dortmund lose out on him to Leipzig, then Balogun would be their next choice.
With USMNT stars Christian Pulisic and Giovanni Reyna starring for Borussia Dortmund in the past, that American connection could convince Balogun to join the side although his contract with Monaco runs until 2028 and the French side are in no hurry to offload him just yet.
