Borussia Dortmund's new signing Joey Veerman sat down for his first interview after completing a high-profile transfer from PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday.
The 27-year-old completed a €21.5million-worth move to BVB, signing a five-year contract and is set to don No. 25 jersey for the club in the 2026-27 season.
After coming up short in their pursuit of Said El Mala, Dortmund moved quickly to address their midfield requirements and closed a deal for Veerman, showing remarkable decisiveness.
Veerman revealed his pride at joining a club of their stature and hoped to pick up some trophies too.
"Borussia Dortmund is a big club in Europe and I am proud to now be part of this club. I am absolutely delighted to be here and look forward to celebrating successes with BVB."he told the press
During his fabulous four-year spell with PSV, the Dutch international won eight trophies, including three Eredivisie titles in a row and two domestic cups too.
Accruing 197 caps for them, Veerman scored 31 goals and assisted 67 times, including a league-high of 14 last season as his inguenity and dynamism helped PSV to another top-flight crown.
At Dortmund, he's expected to operate as a deep-lying playmaker; someone who will be controlling the tempo for his team from a deeper position.
The club was desperately short of a figure like that following Pscal Gross and Salih Ozcan's departure. But with Veerman's arrival, that requirement has been ticked off too as Dortmund now look more balanced.
A versatile player with an exceptional ball control, the Dutchman opened up on the different positions he can play from and what he could offer from each of them.
"I like to play at number 6 or number 8. When i play as number 6 i am more like a player who gives the long passes. At number 8 i try to come closer to the goal to score more goals. As a number 6 i give a lot more assists. I am more type of a football player, not a tackling player. But i can do it for sure. But i try to do beautiful things with the ball."
A product of Volendam youth academy, Veerman also broke into the international stage with the Netherlands in June 2023. Since then, he's bagged another 15 caps for them and scored one goal too, netting the opener in their 2-1 friendly loss to Germany on 26 March 2024.
