Borussia Dortmund are reportedly leading the race for AS Roma forward Matias Soule.
The Argentine's profile fits perfectly as they seek to replace Julian Brandt while the Giallorossi are looking to generate capital to meet the UEFA settlement agreements too.
Soule is currently valued at €30 million and his sale would help Roma greatly in that regard as the side returns to UEFA Champions League next season after a gap of seven years.
Though a right winger by trade, the 23-year-old 's versatility means he can operate from anywhere across the frontline as well as an effective attacking midfielder.
Last season, Soule scored seven goals and made a further eight assists in 42 games for Roma to emerge as their refreshing creative weapon going forward.
It seems to have appealed BVB, who are now considering him a potential reinforcement in place of Brandt, who left the club at the end of 2025-26 season after a seven-year spell.
Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini wants to keep Paulo Dybala while signing two new wide forwards, making Soule surplus to his requirements.
However, the player's selling price could be an obstacle as it's unclear if Dortmund would be willing to shell out €30 million for him, especially after a few expensive transfer flops last season.
With Yan Couto and Fabio Silva both failing to justify their relatively higher fees, the BVB could opt for a more cautious approach in this upcoming summer transfer window.
But unlike both the above mentioned players, Soule is almost guaranteed to start for Dortmund and consistent gametime means he could develop into a world-class prospect in the coming years.
The club boasts a fabulous track record of nurturing young talents from around the world and Soule could be next in line to grow into a household name.
But reportedly it's not certain if Dortmund will pursue a transfer yet. Die Borussen are known for their prudent transfer policy, never exceeding a certain spending threshold.
Only the purchases of Ousmane Dembele (€35 million) and Sebastian Haller (€31 million) in recent times saw them loosen their purse strings a bit more than usual.
It will be interesting to see if Dortmund take the risk once again, especially as the club has other positions to revamp too and are looking to raise funds themselves for it.
So far, the club has announced the signing of Joane Gadou from Red Bull Salzburg, Justin Lerma from Independiente and Kaua Prates from Cruzeiro.
