Borussia Dortmund star Felix Nmecha is all the rage after Saturday's game. The midfielder scored an outrageous bicycle kick in their Bundesliga clash with Paderborn that has everyone raving about it.
As Marcel Sabitzer sent in a cross inside the box, Nmecha had his back against the goal. So he improvised: the 25-year-old lunged himself in the air and attempted an audacious overhead kick.
The ball took a bounce before bundling into the back of the net beyond Paderborn goalkeeper Nahuel Noll's dispairing dive for 3-0.
Dortmund were home and hosed at last, and that was quite some way to do it too.
Scoring bicycle kicks isn't everyone's cup of tea. Just ask Cristiano Ronaldo, who spent years attempting it before finally managing one against Juventus in 2018.
The BVB had a few more players who had the audacity to go for an overhead kick, only to see it saved or go wide. Here are three such players who didn't have the same luck (or technique) as Nmecha:
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang vs Benfica, 2017
One of Dortmund's all-time top-scorers has scored them all, except for a bicycle kick. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang did attempt it once again Benfica in a Champions League match, but it flew narrowly wide.
But unlike Nmecha's attempt, the Gabonese star hadn't thrown himself in the air. As the ball came in low, he went down on his back and tried to hit it, but the angle wasn't appropriate and the shot flew wide of the goal.
Aubameyang did however, score a hat-trick in the game. So that's quite a consolation.
Donyell Malen vs Freiburg, 2024
Donyell Malen could never really bring out his best with Borussia Dortmund, but he certainly wasn't without his moments. The Dutchman too attempted an overhead kick one time, in a regular league game against Freiburg.
As a cross was played in, Malen looked to connect with it with a bicycle kick in a fearsome shot that was bound for goal but Freiburg goalkeeper Noah Atubolu saved it, denying him in the 13th minute. But Malen salvaged himself with another fine strike just three minutes later to give BVB the lead.
Serhou Guirassy vs Bayern Munich, 2025
Last but never the least, Borussia Dortmund's current hitman Serhou Guirassy. He's been banging in the goals left, right and centre since arriving in 2024 and has already hit a few bangers too. But the Guinean was denied a spectacular bicycle kick in April 2025, against Bayern Munich nonetheless.
With Dortmund trailing 2-1 in the 75th minute, a corner was played in which Maximilian Beier headed backwards. With no one clearing it, the ball came to Guirassy, who controlled it first before taking a touch and then unleashing a jaw-dropping overhead kick amidst a sea of red shirts around him.
The Bayern keeper saved it, but Waldemar Anton converted it on the rebound for 2-2.
