Borussia Dortmund host Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga tonight for matchday seven of the 2026-27 season, aiming to get their campaign up and running again following back-to-back draws.

The BVB had begun the new league season in top form, winning their first four games in the competition for the first time since 2015 and sitting at the top of the table before the international break.

But since resuming their committments this month, their title charge was been dealt some unexpected setbacks, as Dortmund threw away a two-goal lead in the dying embers to draw 2-2 with Werder Bremen before another frustrating 0-0 stalemate with Union Berlin.

Another setback tonight would surely raise serious questions over their title credentials, with the all-important Der Klassiker against Bayern Munich set to follow next weekend too.

Niko Kovac's side will be looking to build on the momentum gained from their narrow 2-1 win over Sabah FK in the Champions League on Tuesday. Or, they may want to look upon these emphatic results against Frankfurt for inspiration:

Borussia Dortmund 6-1 Eintracht Frankfurt (March 2001)

The BVB have posted a handful of 4-0 wins over Frankfurt in recent years but this one trumps them all. They were locked in a fierce title race with Bayern Munich and Schalke, making a real statement of intent with this drubbing in March 2001. Christian Worns put them 1-0 up in the first half, but Chen Yang equalized for the Eagles just three minutes into the restart. Dortmund ran riot thereafter, with Lars Ricken and Fredi Bobic netting twice each and Otto Addo getting on target too.

Borussia Dortmund 6-0 Eintracht Frankfurt (March 1996)

March doesn't seem like a good month to play against Dortmund, as Frankfurt had conceded six goals around the same time in 1996 too. En route to successfully defending their Bundesliga crown, the BVB picked up this big win, with Karl-Heinz Riedle bagging a brace, before Michael Zorc, Steffen Freund, Jorg Heinrich and Stephane Chapuisat all struck a goal apiece too to wrap up a spectacular evening.

Borussia Dortmund 6-0 Eintracht Frankfurt (November 1988)

The first time that Dortmund put six past Eintracht Frankfurt, it was one of just 12 wins the side registered in the 1988-89 Bundesliga season. A 22-year-old Gunter Breitzke, just three months into his BVB debut, bagged a hat-trick here, while Michael Zorc, Norbert Dickel and Frank Pagelsdorf also put one each past a hapless Eagles that day.
