According to German news outlet BILD, head coach Julian Naglesmann has opted to personally inform players whether they'd be selected or not ahead of the final squad announcement on Thursday, 21 May.
It was further reported that Naglesmann has informed Nmecha of his inclusion, after previously having expressed doubts over his availability due to the player's injury woes.
Nmecha suffered a torn knee ligament in April that sidelined him for a month and also plunged his World Cup participation with Germany in doubt.
Until then, the midfielder was having an excellent campaign for the BVB. He became a preferred option in the centre of the park for Niko Kovac for his ability to control tempo and get them on attacking foot with long, acccurate passing.
He also scored five goals and made three assists this season. A timely recovery meant Nmecha was back in action for their last two league games, making a substitute appearance of the bench against Eintracht Frankfurt before playing full 90 minutes on the final day against Werder Bremen.
Now it seems like Nmecha is World Cup-bound too, marking his first major tournament with Die Mannschaft although it remains to be seen how much time does he actually get to play at the showpiece, given the intense competition for places in midfield.
Other BVB stars in contention
Apart from Felix Nmecha, a few other Dortmund stars are set to get called-up to Germany's World Cup. Nico Schlotterbeck is the biggest name, given his stellar campaign for the Black and Yellows this season. He might as well be among chief starters for them in defense.
Waldemar Anton isn't far behind, with the centre-back showcasing his innate leadership qualities in defense and having led the meanest backline in the Bundesliga this season. His crunch tackles and exemplary vision will be fruitful in making sure everything is kosher at the back.
Further up, Karim Adeyemi is in line for a call-up too despite his form tapering off in the second half of the 2025-26 season while missing up to a month due to injuries. Yet, he finished as the third highest scorer in the BVB squad.
His tally of 10 goals is matched by his compatriot Maximilian Beier, who is also likely to get summoned for the north American showpiece next month. Besides being a goalscoring threat, he was also a creative force for his side on the flanks with 10 assists in all competitions.
