Over the years, Borussia Dortmund have developed a reputation for nurturing young and promising talents before the big guns price them away for a lucrative fee.
From Robert Lewandowski to Jadon Sancho, numerous players carved a niche for themselves at Dortmund and proceeded to more prestigious clubs for bigger success.
It seems like the trend isn't stopping anytime soon because another player impressing for the Black and Yellows is gaining interest from other spheres of European football.
A big summer move for Svensson?
According to German outlet Bild (via Transfer News Live), Premier League giants Arsenal have their sights on 23-year-old Dortmund defender, Daniel Svensson.
The Swedish left-back, who initially joined on loan last winter, was signed permanently from Norwegian side Nordsjaelland during the summer transfer window.
Since then, he's been a key figure on Niko Kovac's side, making 20 appearances in the Bundesliga and another seven in the Champions League.
Svensson has displayed excellent vision to make timely clearances, doesn't shy away from a tackle and has even chipped in with three goals this season.
His meteroric rise into one of the best young left-backs in the Bundesliga has certainly not gone unnoticed with top European sides with Arsenal expressing interest.
Arsenal going through defensive crisis
The Gunners are currently leading the race for the Premier League title following an incredible campaign, and much of it is down to some shrewd business done during the summer transfer window.
Arsenal's failed title bid last season despite leading the way for most of the season highlighted the importance of a strong bench, and under new sporting director Andrea Barta, the club sought to address some pressing concerns within their squad.
The result is a sustained title challenge which has kept them ahead of the pack, currently leading Manchester City by nine points with a game in hand. Although more recently some of their key figures have suffered injuries, the club is already preparing for the next season too.
Dortmund want big sum for Svensson
Among the players that Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has shown an interest in, is Svensson, but Dortmund won't let the young gun leave on a small fee.
The club wants at least £26 million for him, given his age and range of skills. It hasn't deterred other clubs from entering the race for him either.
Another English top-flight side Leeds United also fancy him, while Serie A giants Inter Milan are said to be his admirers too.
However, should Arsenal be crowned the Premier League champions, then the prospect of joining them would be too difficult to turn down.
Going from Signal Iduna Park to Emirates is a path troddened by a few other players too such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
