Borussia Dortmund striker Fabio Silva aims to shoulder bigger responsibility within the squad after goal against Bayern Munich in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup defeat.
The Portuguese forward came off the bench to reduce the deficit for them in the 75th minute, smashing home a cross from Daniel Svensson inside the box.
Having trailed 2-0 in the match until then, Silva's efforts gave the BVB a hope of a comeback as the home side were on the attacking foot.
But, an equalizer remained elusive. Maximilian Beier perhaps, had the best chance from inside the box but he shot over into the stands with the goal gaping in front of him.
Buoyed by his heroics on the day, Silva admitted his desire to nail down a starting berth in the side and shoulder bigger resposibilities.
"Of course I want to start more matches and help the team. I want to be even more important. If I said anything else, I would be lying. I always tell the truth."
Signed on a €22.5million transfer from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2025, Silva failed to live up to his expectations last season.
With Serhou Guirassy firing at all cylinders once again, the 24-year-old was largely second-fiddle to him but also failed to prove his mettle in the rare opportunities given to him.
In 28 league games, he struck only twice but made six assists, demonstrating his ability to operate as a creative No.10 behind the striker.
Silva reiterated his qualities to make a case for himself, as he said:
"Everyone sees what I did last season, in the minutes I played, the assists, the movement. I am not a normal No 9, a nine-and-a-half."
During the preseason campaign, he was given a handful of chances by Niko Kovac and although similar struggles plagued the player, Silva burst to life later on, scoring the winner against FC Tokyo and then impressing in the win over Arsenal too.
Yet, Guirassy was given the chance to lead the side against Bayern at the weekend. But with the Guinean ace having a stinker, Kovac subbed him off for Silva and he repaid the faith with a goal, just his fourth in official games since joining the club last year.
With uncertainty hovering over his future, Silva has been linked with a move away from Dortmund in recent times. LaLiga teams Real Sociedad and Real Betis are reportedly interested while Turkish giants Trabzonspor are said to be vying for him too.
