If there's one club that never hesitates to take a punt with young players, it's Borussia Dortmund. The club has developed a reputation for roping in relatively untested quantities and turning them into world-class prospects that Europe's bigger teams then price away.
Although the Black and Yellows have already signed a few such prospects this summer with Joane Gadou, Justin Lerma and Kaua Prates, all of whom are 18 or younger, they aren't done yet.
Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg has reported on his official X handle that Dortmund have reached an agreement in principle for Konstantinos Karetsas and negotiations are currently ongoing.
He further stated that Belgian side Genk, where the 18-year-old plies his trade, has rejected every bid from Die Borussen so far as they continue to demand up to €35 million.
However, the Bundesliga giants aren't cooling off their interest in Karetsas yet. Sporting director Nils-Ole Book apparently views the young gun as a priority signing this summer.
Who is Konstantinos Karetsas?
Born in 2007, Konstantinos Karetsas started his football career at the age of eight with Genk before continuing his development at Anderlecht. He made his senior debut with Jong Genk, the youth side of Genk, at the start of 2023-24 season and netted three goals from his first seven games.
As his strong run continued, the midfielder was promoted to Genk's senior team in 2024 and continued to impress with his promising displays. He's now a first-team regular, playing 34 top-flight matches for the last two seasons in a row.
Breaking into Greece's national team
Karetsas' meteoric rise with Genk didn't go unnoticed on the international stage, as the teenager made his debut for Greece in March 2025. Born in Belgium to Greek parents, he chose to represent the Euro 2004 champions instead, a switch that was approved by FIFA just days ahead of his Greece debut.
Soon enough, he scripted history by becoming the youngest scorer in the nation's history at 17 years and 124 days as Karetsas opened his goalscoring account for Greece against Scotland in a 3-0 victory at the UEFA Nations League.
He then bagged two more goals during their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier campaign, against Belarus and Scotland as the player has already made himself a serious prospect within their squad and has 10 caps to his name.
Dortmund see his talent
Borussia Dortmund clearly see and acknowledge his talent, which explains their serious interest in him. With such an encouraging record under his belt, Karetsas could be set for a more productive spell at the Signal Iduna Park should a transfer materialize.
