Borussia Dortmund have added another exciting clash to their pre-season schedule as they are set to face Serie A giants AS Roma this summer.

According to reports, the Giallorossi are set to begin training for the 2026-27 season on 13 July 2026 while currently figuring out their training camp, which will be either in Germany, Austria or the Netherlands.

Their pre-season friendly with Dortmund is scheduled for 15 August at the Signal Iduna Park, just a week before the start of the new Serie A season. It is also set to be Roma's last warmup match of the summer.

Dortmund, too, would officially kick-start their new campaign a week later with an exciting DFL Supercup clash against Bayern Munich, also scheduled to take place at the Signal Iduna Park, in what's an opportunity for the BVB to begin the 2026-27 season with a silverware.

On paper, Dortmund against Roma easily sounds like a clash of European caliber and there's a chance that the sides could be drawn against each other in next season's Champions League with the Serie A side sealing a return to the competition after seven years with a third-place finish in the league this year.

Indeed, the sides rarely meet. The upcoming clash in August marks their first encounter in a friendly, whereas their last official meeting in Europe was 33 years ago: back in March 1993, the sides were drawn against each other in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup, with Roma winning the first leg 1-0 at home before Dortmund exacted revenge with a 2-0 home win.

Moreover, we could have a reunion on the cards here as Dortmund come up against their former striker Donyell Malen, who currently plies his trade with Roma. The Dutchman had joined the Rome outfit on loan from Aston Villa in January and following a terrific return of 14 league goals in 18 games, which played a key role in helping them qualify for the Champions League, the Giallorossi signed him on a permanent basis.

The AS Roma clash is now the fourth confirmed pre-season game for Dortmund, who kick it off with a clash to Rot-Weiß Oberhausen on 18 July followed by a visit to Japan, where fixtures to Cerezo Osaka and FC Tokyo on 29 July and 1 August, respectively, are scheduled. It marks their third visit to the Asian country after previously holding their 2015 and 2024 pre-season campaigns there.
