Borussia Dortmund renew hostilities with Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday when the rivals clash in the Bundesliga. While the BVB occupy second place with the joint-highest tally alongside Bayern Munich, Frankfurt are down in 11th place.
Both teams boast an envious attacking lineup with quality forwards who can cause each other trouble in the final third as the match is likely going to be no short on goalmouth action.
Here are the top-scorers in their rivalry:
5) Bernd Nickel - 7 goals
The only Eintracht Frankfurt player on the list, Bernd Nickel was an attacking midfielder by trade but known for his fearsome shots which earned him the moniker 'Doktor Hammer'. A Frankfurt legend, the late West Germany international spent 17 years at the club during which time he bagged 175 goals, the third most in their history. Dortmund were one of his favorite opponents, netting seven goals.
4) Marco Reus - 8 goals
Frankfurt were one of Marco Reus' top 10 sides to play against, netting eight goals from 23 games in all competitions, including one with Borussia Monchengladbach. His best match against the Eagles though, came with the Black and Yellow in February 2013 when the former German international scored a hat-trick in their 3-0 home win.
3) Manfred Burgsmuller - 8 goals
One of Dortmund's best player in the late 70s and early 80s, Burgsmuller scored 158 goals for the side in just seven years, which keeps him third in their all-time list of goalscorers. Among his favorite opponents was Frankfurt, scoring nine times against them with the BVB.
2) Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - 8 goals
Aubameyang has scored the most number of goals against Eintracht Frankfurt than any other side in his career with 10, of which eight came in Dortmund colors. He was their serial tormentor in the Bundesliga, but also netted in both his appearances against the Eagles in the German Cup, most famously in the 2017 finals which the BVB won 2-1.
1) Michael Zorc - 9 goals
Borussia Dortmund's highest appearance-maker just had to be here. Michael Zorc remains one of the greatest one-club men, having played his entire club career with the Black and Yellow, lasting 17 years. A midfielder by trade, he possesses envious attacking qualities that saw him net 158 goals during his spell, of which nine came against Frankfurt, including in each of his last three appearances from 1995 to 1996.
