Niko Kovac's first full-season in charge of Borussia Dortmund was one full of records and milestones. Having picked up the side from a rut and secured them a strong finish last year, the Croatian manager continued their development into world-beaters with a solid campaign.

The BVB finished with the best defensive record in the league with only 34 goals conceded while achieving their highest league finish in three years as well as accruing the most number of points in seven years.

Dortmund also became the first team in the Champions League to score four goals in their opening three games of the season as they started their European sojourn brightly, though it ultimately fizzled out sooner than expected.

Their league cup campaign offered no great shakes as Die Borussen lost out in the round of 16. So the season wasn't without its challenges and struggled for the club, who lost just 10 times in 47 matches.

But here are their worst games of the 2025-26 season:

Monchengladbach 1-0 Dortmund (Bundesliga, 3 May '26)

One of Dortmund's worst games in the Bundesliga came towards the end of the season when Borussia Monchengladbach inflicted them with their fifth and the last top-flight loss.

The Black and Yellows were so utterly lackluster in attack, missing all the firepower they had displayed in a 4-0 thumping of Freiburg just a week before.

Tottenham 2-0 Dortmund (Champions League, 20 Jan '26)

Dortmund had lost their last four clashes in a row against Spurs, but there was still hope for that jinx to end here given the English side's torrential struggles domestically.

But once again, the BVB were completely dominated by the London side, whereas Daniel Svensson was also sent off in just the 24th minutes, forcing the visitors to play with a man down for over an hour.

Dortmund 0-1 Leverkusen (DFB-Pokal, 2 Dec '25)

Boasting a four-year unbeaten record away to Leverkusen, the BVB came into the fixture having suffered only two losses into the season at this point and were favorites to knock out their visitors.

But turns out, Kovac's side were uncharacteristically misfiring. Of their 15 attempts, which is more than double of what the Die Werkself managed, only three were on target.

Atalanta 4-1 Dortmund (Champions League, 25 Feb '26)

Coming to Bergamo with a 2-0 advantage from the first leg, Dortmund were widely expected to progress from the knockout playoffs and into the last-16. But what followed was truly shocking.

Atalanta turned the tie around with an electric display, racing to a 3-0 lead inside the hour mark before restoring their aggregate lead deep in stoppage-time to send Dortmund packing.

A collapse of epic proportions from Kovac's side.
