Borussia Dortmund playmaker Julian Brandt made his 70th assist for the club on Sunday when he lobbed one over for Serhou Guirassy to tap home in their 4-0 drubbing of Freiburg.
It's a remarkable stat by all accounts as Brandt has been an instrumental figure within the Black and Yellow setup for almost seven years now.
The German international has established himself among the best playmakers in the Bundesliga while also becoming a driving force behind their offensive rhythms.
In 304 appearances for Dortmund, Brandt has scored 57 goals while bagging 70 assists, which puts him among the five best creators in the club's history.
In fact, only two players have ever laid more assists than him:
Andreas Moller - 100 assists
A prolific attacking midfielder of the mid-80s and 90s, Moller first played for Borussia Dortmund from 1988 to 1990, during which time he made 89 appearances in all competitions. After spells at Eintracht Frankfurt and Juventus, the former Germany international returned to Signal Iduna Park in 1994 for a longer term, spending six more years there. He wasn't the most prolific, Moller still managed to score 88 goals for the BVB while making another 100 assists as the midfielder had developed a stellar reputation for creating goals.
Marco Reus - 131 assists
This man needs no introduction. Another bona fide club legend at Dortmund, Marco Reus spent 12 years there during which time he went through some dizzying highs as well as forgetful lows. Later in his career, the German even donned the captain's armband and among many things, led them to 2024 UEFA Champions League finals too. He left with 429 appearances in all competitions, which could have been so much more had it not been for his recurring injury issues. Reus struck 170 goals during his time there, which is just seven shy of the club's all-time record of 177 by Adi Preißler, but leads in terms of assists with 131.
Dortmund have big shoes to fill after Brandt's departure
Julian Brandt is confirmed to depart Borussia Dortmund this summer after his contract expires in June. It is going to leave a massive void in the squad as the German international has had a profound impact on the side since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in 2019.
Given Dortmund's stellar track record of finding apt replacements, no one doubts them to pull off an appropriate reinforcement after his departure. But for now, the question remains who could that be. Either way, the player will have massive boots to fill.
