On 29 September, Borussia Dortmund sensation Mathis Albert etched his name forever in history books. He came off the bench and scored a goal in their 4-2 vanquish of Chile, thereby becoming the youngest ever scorer for the USMNT at 17 years and 131 days.

The teen narrowly surpassed the previous record held by former Dortmund star Christian Pulisic, who achieved the milestone at 17 years and 253 days back in May 2016. But while his record stood for over a decade, Albert's reign lasted only four days.

Cavan Sullivan snatches Albert's record with Mexico goal

The USMNT continued their prolific post-World Cup run with another comprehensive victory, beating Mexico 3-0 in their third friendly of the international window, after having thrashed Peru 4-1 and Chile 4-2 previously.

Their latest outing also produced another record as Cavan Sullivan scored his first goal for the Stars and Stripes to usurp Albert and become their new youngest scorer at 17 years and 5 days, once again narrowly edging out the former's milestone.

Albert, who's has bagged some valuable international experienced this autumn, had made a serious impression as one of USA's best and the brightest young talents with promising displays against Peru and Chile, while topping it off with a record-breaking first goal too.

But the BVB starlet's joy was short-lived after Sullivan snatched the record away just a few days later. It does sound cruel for a player who only stepped into the international stage just about 10 days ago, but he's still the second youngest now and it does little to eclipse his encouraging potential.

Will his USMNT heroics translate into regular club football?

For Albert to develop and eventually play to his strengths, it's imperative that Dortmund give him enough playing time.

Due to fierce competition for places, the teen sensation is yet to make an appearance in the Bundesliga this season. But after back-to-back games that witnessed his uncanny dribbling skills, electric pace, close control and sheer predatory instincts to attack the box, BVB head coach Niko Kovac would be tempted to hand him a chance to shine with the club too.

Albert subbed in for two minutes against Mexico

USMNT played their penultimate match of the international window today and Mathis Albert was given just two minutes off the bench. He replaced goalscorer Malik Tillman in the 88th minute and touched the ball just once, which he also ended up losing right after.

That was his only piece of action in the game although honestly, with USMNT leading 3-0 at the time of his substitution, Albert wasn't really needed. Pochettino throwing him in was merely to continue his adaption to international football but without stressing him out.

Let's see if Albert gets more gametime in their last match of the window against Canada on Tuesday, 6 October.
