Chelsea gave reportedly expressed an interest in Borussia Dortmund star Karim Adeyemi as the Premier League giants look forward to rebuilding their squad following a treacherous season.

Though he's under contract with the Black and Yellow until June 2027, Adeyemi's future at Signal Iduna Park looks uncertain right now due to contract renewal talks running into a stonewall.

Rumors suggest he could be put on sale this summer as Dortmund are eyeing a squad overhaul and the Blues are said to been in contact with the player's entourage to understand his situation, according to German news outlet Fussballdaten.

The 24-year-old is considered an attractive prospect by Chelsea for his pace, playmaking ability and the versatility to play across different positions in the attacking vanguard.

Additionally, Adeyemi is understood to have a desire for a new challenge away from the Bundesliga, where he's been playing in since moving to Borussia Dortmund in 2022 from Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg.

Premier League could then be his next likely destination with Chelsea contemplating on a move to bring him to Stamford Bridge. However, the player won't come cheap.

Adeyemi has a release clause of £70 million in his contract and Dortmund won't be selling him for anything less, given his relatively younger age and vast range of talents.

But Chelsea are no stranger to massive outlays on young players, having spent a fortune on several up-and-coming talents since Todd Boehly took over a few years ago.

Moreover the club is going through a real turmoil right now, losing five consecutive Premier League games without scoring a single goal, a historic low.

The Blues need a playmaking talisman who can pull the strings for them upfront while also chipping in with goals regularly, and Adeyemi appears to fit the bill quite perfectly.

In 26 league appearances this season, he's netted seven goals and made three assists while in the Champions League, the former Salzburg star has scored another three and assisted twice from nine games.

He might be diminutive by stature but Adeyemi can be a real menace on the ball with his spectacular hold-up play, exemplary passing range and mazy runs through the defense.

But Chelsea aren't alone in the race to sign him. Reports suggest Manchester United and Newcastle United are monitoring him too and more clubs could lineup outside his door in the coming months.

This saga could be among the more interesting ones in the upcoming transfer window.
