Borussia Dortmund put out a statement congratulating arch-rivals Bayern Munich for winning the Bundesliga.

The Bavarians clinched a record-extending 35th title in the competition with a 4-2 drubbing of Stuttgart on Sunday.

Dortmund's 1-0 loss to Hoffenheim the day before preponed their title celebrations once more, leaving the Bavarians needing just a point from their match to retain the crown.

Vincent Kompany's side fought back from a deficit to strike four times before Die Roten pulled one late on although it was nothing more than a consolation.

Dortmund then released a statement honoring their Der Klassiker rivals on the coronation in a press release that read:

""Bayern Munich secured the German Championship ahead of schedule on Matchday 30 of the 2025/26 Bundesliga season. Following a 4-2 home victory against VfB Stuttgart on Sunday, the 35th league title for the Munich side is now confirmed. Borussia Dortmund congratulates Bayern on a deserved win of the German Championship in the Bundesliga!""

Until February, Dortmund were on the coattails of Bayern, trailing by just six points. But then the draw to RB Leipzig made it eight, while the loss in the Klassiker almost ended their title hopes as Bayern led by 11 points after that.

A draw to Leverkusen gave Dortmund another ray of hope, reducing the gap to nine points, but back-to-back losses to Die Werkself and then Hoffenheim put the final nail in their coffin.

Bayern have been too good, mustering over 100 goals in the Bundesliga and losing just once all season, a 2-1 home loss to Augsburg in January.

Despite a few hiccups along the way, their title chances never really appeared to be fully in danger as Dortmund's own struggles made up for it.

The BVB also failed to get any points off them this season, losing home and away. The first was a 2-1 loss in Munich before relinquishing a 2-1 lead to lose 3-2 at the Signal Iduna Park last month.

Bayern completed the first league double over Dortmund since 2021-22 season, once again highlighting the disparity between the domestic rivals.

Niko Kovac's side have been undone by some tame performances lately, where they struggled to control the game and conceded late on.

On seven occasions this league season, Die Borussen dropped points from a winning position - among the most by a team in the division.

They currently have 64 points from 30 games and occupy the second place whereas Bayern are in first with 79.
